On Our Way North, Arizona

 

Day  One, we travel along the desolate highway between Globe and Show Low. We journey down the deep Salt River Canyon. The landscape explodes with its unique rainbow of desert colors. Clay red paints the dramatic rocky cliffs. Pale orangey yellow-colored soil supports green junipers that dot the ground rising up to kiss the clean blue sky. 

We merge onto the interstate toward Gallup, New Mexico. Jockey for position among the semi trucks that stroll like dinosaurs migrating along the ribbon of road stretching towards the horizon. Deep purples emerge from the setting sun to complete the desert rainbow.
